Autumn Clough Williams-Ellis Estate Wedding

June 29, 2022

So last year we started blogging once a week. It was great. Showcasing weddings we were super proud of and wanted to show off… then the summer season hit, lockdowns were lifted and weddings started happening in full force. It was so great to get back to work but it was very much a matter of all hands on deck trying to get through the busiest, most jam-packed season we’ve ever had. And so, our blog got left on the side. But no longer! It’s a new year, we’re back on top of our weddings and oh my goodness we have so much good stuff to show off.

But first, let’s take a journey way back to the end of 2020. It feels like an age ago now. Things were still…2020 and there was talk of a firebreak lockdown on the horizon to try and help things out before the winter months. We had our last wedding of the year coming up with the awesome Awen and Dyl and we were all very excited. Then the announcement came. Wales was going into lockdown and all events were cancelled. Gutted. That was sadly the story of 2020 for so many folk and it wasn’t fair. But amazingly, Awen and Dyl were not to be thwarted. Somehow, with everything falling apart and amidst all the chaos of 2020, they managed to pull together the most amazing wedding, literally within days. Their original date (which sadly wasn’t even their original date but a rearrangement after covid scuppered their original original plans), was right in the middle of the firebreak lockdown. So what did they do, they pulled everything forwards. They changed plans, phoned around, reorganised and everything went so perfectly.

A Clough Williams-Ellis wedding

We’ve always loved Portmeirion. It’s one of our favourite places to visit. We’ve had family days with the kids eating ice creams, paddling in the fountains and beautiful winter visits where the estate is covered in snow. Rain or shine it’s one of our favourite places. So any chance to photograph there is taken readily.

Awen & Dylan started their day with their ceremony in Plas Brondanw, the home of Clough Williams-Ellis, the designer of Portmeirion. This is one place we haven’t been before as a family, but we plan to rectify that soon. Beautiful gardens and at this time, completely empty. It was the perfect spot to have an intimate wedding with close family before heading to Portmeirion.

2020 was very much the year of doing things differently. For these two it was a ceremony in the gardens, before heading to Portmeirion to meet friends and family for afternoon tea, followed by an evening meal at the The Mill Bistro. It was a relaxed day which complimented Awen & Dyl perfectly, reflected what they wanted to achieve from their wedding and the result was oh so special. They beat the issues that covid brought and had their wedding their way.
