Adventure Wedding in Gretna Green & Lake District

Travel Wedding
A Scottish elopement road trip wedding in Gretna Green and the Lake District

Earlier this year we had the pleasure of capturing Laura & Mark’s road trip wedding. Currently living in North Wales, Laura & Mark decided to head to Gretna Green to elope in the Famous Blacksmiths Shop.

After a long 8 year engagement, this adventurous couple grabbed their nearest and dearest and headed for Gretna Green. Steeped in tradition, the Famous Blacksmiths Shop has lots of quirky features and plenty of nooks and crannies.

When planning their photo session they told us about their idea of driving through the Lake District on their way back down from Scotland and stopping at some of the amazing vistas. The Lakes hold a lot of sentiment for us at Fox & Bear (it’s where we got engaged!) so it was great to head back there to celebrate Laura & Mark’s wedding, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery. So, after the wedding and a quick car sandwich, we started off on our photo road trip.

Prior to the wedding, Laura & Mark had emailed to firm up arrangements for their day. When we received an email containing the words; we are willing to jump fences and stand in muck to get the best pics, we just knew we were working with the best couple! Fortunately there was no need for standing in the muck!

As the mist set in, Laura donned her wellies and off we went. Private beaches, jetties, stone bridges, and country stiles. We even managed to get their son Logan involved for a few of the photos. Such an amazing day with amazing people.

The Fox and Bear Guide – The Best Wedding Venues in North Wales
So you've got engaged; congratulations! Your thoughts are probably now turning to one of the hardest decisions you'll need to make in the wedding planning process; which North Wales venue to choose. Never fear, we've compiled a list of our favourite venues in the area: Hafod Farm, between Llanwrst and Betws-y-Coed. Best for: the rural loving couple. Hafod Farm is so picturesque, it's one of our favourite places to shoot weddings. The barn is licensed for marriages and holds up to 80 guests, and the reception is held in a marquee (holds up to 150) in their stunning grounds. The farmstead is in the base of the beautiful Conwy valley. ...

Hafod Farm, Barn Wedding // Helen & Steve
We had a blast with Helen & Steven on their wedding day.  These guys got married in the picturesque Hafod Farm in the Conwy valley.  After an picnic lunch we headed out to Swallow falls in Betws-y-Coed for some photos. The multicoloured pastel bridesmaids dresses were a fantastic touch. And that cake!  This was also our first humanist wedding with Maxine Beech leading the ceremony. Not sure what a humanist wedding is? Maxine was awesome and wrote a guest post all about it. Check out what Helen & Steve have to say about their wedding at the end of this blog. ...
