A rustic outdoor wedding ceremony in the Scottish Highlands
Just before their wedding we were chatting to Nat and Oli about their choice of ceremony location. We always ask what makes a couple choose the place where they say their vows to each other. All Nat said in response to my question was “You’ll see…”
We love a bit of intrigue and, oh boy, were we glad she didn’t spoil the surprise. So what’s so special about Knockfarrel Hill? Well, you’ll see…
Their story
Oli and Nat are our kind of people. Friendly, open and utterly in love with each other. Photographing them was a breeze! They met in Myanmar in an internet cafe and, 5 years later back in Myanmar, Oli grabbed Nat’s hand while she was floating in the sea off a remote beach and popped the question!
A fusion of cultures
One of our favourite things about Nat and Oli’s day was just how personal it was to the two of them. Nat’s family live out in Costa Rica so they decided to combine their favourite traditions and elements from both Costa Rican and Scottish cultures. Including local highlands food, a ceildh and, of course, Costa Rican coffee!
They did everything themselves with a helping hand from family and friends. Nat handmade 125 clay espresso cups as wedding favours while Oli’s mum put together Nat’s bouquet as well as planting over 1000 daffodil bulbs in time for them to bloom on the wedding day. The garden looked amazing! Guests gathered at the house and were offered a shot of sloe gin before making their way up the hill to the ceremony.
Nat wasn’t wrong when she hinted just how incredible a place it is. With 360 degree views of the loch and Ben Wyvis the surroundings were out of this world. Nat and her Dad arrived at the ceremony via quad bike, probably one of the best bridal entrances we’ve ever seen!
The day passed in a blur of hugs, laughter and whiskey (well, we were in Scotland) before everyone took to the dancefloor for “The Dashing White Sargeant”. Nat and Oli had planned a day they’d never forget with the people they care about and what a celebration it was!
Thanks as always goes to the amazing suppliers who helped make this such an awesome day
