Rowton Castle wedding photography – Steph and Richard
It’s not every day that we meet a couple who are planning their wedding in a castle, so safe to say we were pretty excited to hear all about Steph and Richard’s plans for their day at Rowton Castle.
Rowton Castle in Shropshire is packed full of history, although not much seems to be known about the castle itself. Other than it has stood for over 800 years! The foundations and the central core of the place are thought to date back to before Tudor times while over the years other wings have been added and taken away. As it stands today it is an absolutely stunning location.
It was owned by the Lysters for more than 4 centuries before being sold on and eventually becoming the property of the Royal Normal College for the Blind. The ruin was then sold again in the 1980s and work began to turn it into this luxury wedding venue.
Wedding ceremonies at Rowton Castle
This beautiful building has been privy to many stories over the centuries and now it was Steph and Richard’s turn to start a new chapter of their lives there.
I love that they’d opted for an outdoor ceremony, it’s always a slight worry in this country as the weather is so unpredictable even in the summer but there were no doubts here. The sun was shining, the sky was glorious and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Steph walked down the aisle towards Rich. The grin on his face as he saw her was infectious and behind the camera I couldn’t stop smiling! That set the tone for the day and it was smiles all around, from both myself, Steph (especially Steph), Rich and all their guests.
As an aside we love that Steph got both her mum and father-in-law involved in the wedding ceremony. Her Mum walked her down the aisle before she took her father-in-law’s hand for the final steps. It was really lovely way to show her love for them both.
Summer wedding portraits
Following the intimate wedding ceremony we left the guests enjoying fizz and canapes and stole Steph and Richard away for a few minutes. The grounds at Rowton are lovely with lots of hidden nooks to explore. I made the most of the stunning light and let the two of them just enjoy having a moment together while I snapped away.
Steph and Richard, we loved being a part of your day. You were both an utter joy to be around!
