The Fox and Bear Guide – Why have an engagement shoot

Couples The Fox and Bear Guide Wedding

Here at Fox & Bear we love an engagement shoot. When we chat to our couples about having an couples session, we are often faced with comments along the lines of “I’m not a camera person” or “why do I need one?”. Well we’ve got you covered and have compiled the best reasons to get excited and book a shoot.

Get to know your photographer

Your photographer is important. Really important. Not only are they responsible for collecting the memories which you will cherish for years, but you are also going to be sharing your wedding day with them! They will be there at every stage, alongside you and your partner.

We will always try to meet with all of our couples before their wedding day, to have a chat about their ideas for the wedding. We love to hear what you have planned. An engagement shoots not only allows for lots of wedding chat and time to get to know each other, but allow our couples to see us at work. By the time the wedding comes around we feel like we’re spending the day with friends rather than working with clients.

Become comfortable in front of the camera

Most folk are not used to being in front of the camera. We all have cameras in our pockets nowadays and although we take photos constantly, it’s not quite the same as having someone there with the sole purpose of taking your photograph. It can be pretty scary and can take a little bit of getting used to. If you book an engagement shoot it can really help with this. We’ve always found that couples who we’ve worked with previously, settle into their photographs and each other quickly.Time on your wedding day is precious and limited. If you guys are already comfortable in front of a camera it will only allow more time for celebrations and epic photography on the big day.

Head to an incredible location

This is our favourite reason to have an engagement shoot, the location. With the couples shoot, the location options are limitless. Perhaps you have a favourite spot, or the place where you got engaged. Maybe you’re getting married in the mountains but you also love the beach or have a favourite city. We can go pretty much anywhere for a shoot.

If you can’t think of a location, chat to your photographer. We have a MASSIVE list of locations we love to shoot at and we are always finding more that we want to add! Fox & Bear road trips often involve the following conversations “that’s an amazing view……. it would be a perfect shoot location”.

We have had a great time working with our couples at places such as Newborough Beach, Llyn Idwal, Bodysgallen Hall, Snowdon, Portmeirion… the list goes on.

Receive some amazing images and get excited!

While there are a host of reasons why engagement shoots are beneficial, ultimately they are a brilliant excuse to get out and about capturing amazing photographs. At the end of the shoot, you should have had an awesome time running around with your photographer, chatting about plans for your wedding and at the end of it, receive a stash of photographs to treasure for years to come.

The Fox & Bear Guide – Photography Myths Debunked
Whenever we meet someone new and explain that Dewi is a wedding photographer, we always get the same questions. There appears to be an engrained belief about what wedding photography is like and how we work. We're here to tackle some of these misconceptions and myths. Myth 1: Group photos take hours We've been guests at weddings where we spend an hour or longer waiting for the formal group photos. Waiting in a queue for your name to be called; its not what the day is about.  Of course group photographs are important but do you need to have individual photographs with each and every guest? Spend some time before your wedding day to consider ...

Fun Pre-Wedding Session, Trearddur Bay
After the most ridiculous summer heat, we arranged meet up with Jess & Gio at the Sea Shanty for an ice cream and a chat about their upcoming wedding. As a family, we love Trearddur Bay in Anglesey. We've already given Freya her first dip in the sea here and we cannot wait for her to be searching the rock pools for crabs as she gets older. Mama P (Jess's mum) has recently bought a house in this lovely beachside town and the place holds a special place in the hearts of Jess, Gio and their family. Which is why they have chosen this amazing place to get married. Typically, after non stop sunshine for weeks, the day we met the sun didn't w ...
